My paperback dream

This is doubly odd for me. I don’t talk a lot about my life outside of writing much on this site. And I certainly have never shared anything about a dream I had.

There’s a first time for everything.

A little background. So, Truesilver is in the proofing phase. The files were sent off to the printer last week. The cover is drop dead, criminal with a license to kill, gorgeous. The formatting is all neat and tidy (hopefully, that’s what proofs are for). The bar codes and title fonts are in place.

I got an email on Friday stating that the proof would be arriving on Saturday. And like the night before Christmas, I went to bed with visions of printer ink swirling in my head.

I dreamed and dream

Anticipation. Expectation. Waiting on the edge of eternity. It’s all part of the publishing process. But I never thought it would follow me into my dreams.

But that’s just what happened. Sometime in the inscrutable hours of miasmic possibility, I found myself looking out the window at our mailbox. Everything was bright. Like starry starry night, but day, so without the blue.

I saw it delivered and someone (probably my wife, I’m fuzzy on this part) brought it in to me. I vividly remember the excitement coursing through me.

“Why are you so excited?” she asked.

“Because this book is going to change my life,” I said.

And that’s all I remember.

Something new

I’ve written several books, but I never had a dream about getting a copy of one. That tells you how over the moon I am about this story.

Sometimes dreams do come true. The proof copy came and it is the loveliest little bundle of papyrus I’ve ever laid eyes on. I don’t know if the changing my life part will come true. I’ve learned to temper my expectations when it comes to how my stories are received. I don’t have any guarantees that readers will enjoy them.

But I’ll tell you what. That dream is something to hold onto.

Who knows what the future holds?

A sneaky peek

I wish I could show you a picture of the paperback proof. It really did exceed all my wildest hopes. But for now, this snapshot of the title page will have to do.

Truesilver is coming. Sometime in 2021.

Keep dreaming.

  1. Aaahh, I love this so much! Dreaming about your book–how cool! And that snapshot is such a near sneak peek! So excited to see this gorgeous cover! I’m thrilled about the upcoming release already. 😀

      1. Ha ha. No worries. At least your typos are due to auto-correct. Mine are just honest mistakes! And it is actually both a “near” sneak peek in a way. So it’s all good. Thanks for the comment and for stopping by!
