I love Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It’s just so whimsical and fun and says several wonderful things, even if in a rather silly way.
One of my favorite parts of the book has to be the song about Mike Teavee, the little boy whose life revolves around watching TV. It’s a delightful, irreverent jab at that ever-present invention. I love it so much I quoted the entire thing in my review of the book.
So please, oh please, we beg, we pray
Go throw your TV set away
And in its place you can install
A lovely bookshelf on the wall
As the song intimates, If the world had more book shelves filled with books and less TV sets, it would be a merrier place. So I thought I’d whip up a little poster with one of the lines from the song to beg anyone who stumbles across it to install more book shelves!
*nods* Yes. I agree with this sentiment. More bookshelves, all around!
Hey, Abbey, great to have you back. Thanks for the comment!
I LOVED that poem in the book! 😀 And yes, all the bookshelves! I don’t even have a TV but I do need more shelves… I wonder where I can fit one. XD
Yes, I’m thinking of actually memorizing this one. It’s such fun. And yes, three cheers for bookshelves!
That poster/meme just inspired an invention of my own, of sorts – imagine if you had that television in your house, removed the screen and the mechanical “guts” inside, and filled the empty box with books! It would be the coolest, statement-makingest bookshelf around!
