The Jammer and the Blade was the first novella I released, but it has struggled to garner much attention. Maybe I’m just a glutton for punishment, but I thought I’d give it one last college try by giving it a new cover. The past covers both had their merits, but I think this is the closest one to my original vision.
I know the darker cover may be a bit harder to make things out in when the picture gets shrunk down, but I really like the way it looks. To me it lets you know that the main character is a girl, she’s of Asian heritage, and she’s a warrior.
A few bits of cover trivia
In case you are wondering, the stuff in the background is supposed to be a trash heap. I know it’s probably not clear, but I’m not sure it really matters. I just wanted something that captured the bleak, post-apocalyptic feel of the world and actually, it was the background which I fell in love with first. So much so that it made me decide to go to the extra work of finding a character that would fit into it and replace the one from the previous cover.
Another interesting tidbit is that, while the face of the girl is from a stock art photo, the hands are actually pictures of one of my daughter’s hands. She is pretty tickled to have them on there and insists that that is her favorite part of the cover, of course.
So there you have it, the brand new cover for Jammer and the Blade. Third time’s a charm, right? Here’s hoping so.
