Surprise! Bet you didn’t see this coming.
Yes, today I’m doing a surprise cover reveal for Grimbriar, book three in .
The reason this is coming out of the blue is because the book is finally available for preorder. Astute readers may have already noticed this on Amazon and I wanted to go ahead and share the cover since the cat is already out of the bag.
Publishing status
Before we get to the cover, a quick update on where the book is in terms of getting to print.
It’s currently in the beta read stage and since that is just getting started, if you love this series and would like to help shape it and provide feedback, please drop me a note via the contact form.
I hope to get the feedback by the end of March and then, barring any major changes, I’ll do another draft in April. It will then go to the proofreader and that may take 1-2 months, so the book may be ready by July for release!
That said, I put in some wiggle room for the actual release date, which is December 26th.
Wait, six months is an awful lot of wiggling, you might be thinking. And you would be correct. But such is the world of a part-time writer. I simply don’t have the time needed to get the book to print as quickly as I’d like sometimes and I’ve found it’s best to plan for unexpected issues to pop up.
Another reason for the long delay is that I want to be sure that the book is as good as it can be before I place it in your hands. That said, I do have the option to move up the release date if things go amazingly in the next few stages.
Be sure to sign up to my mailing list to get notified if the date moves up.
Cover time
So, now on to the main event.
Get ready because this cover has enough green to make you want to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day early this year.

As you can see from the cover, it’s quite a fertile seen. And what’s that new spiky thing in the middle? Is that a morningstar? Yes, we’ve left the realm of swords now. A glaive can be any sort of weapon, you see.
But who will be the one to wield it?
If you’ve read Rimewinter you know that the story there ended on a darker note than the first series. Will this next book be as grim as its title implies? You’ll have to read it to find out.
Synopsis
To give you an idea, here’s a quick lead in to the novel from the back cover:
Shadows, shadows, everywhere.
Kion and his sister Tiryn hunt for Vayd Mokàn, leader of the haukmar forces now conquering their land, but all they find are strange pools of shadow on the ground. But if they do find him, will they be able to defeat him? For Vayd now possesses a glaive of his own, just like Kion and Tiryn.
Yet, with their ever faithful friend, Zinder, to encourage and spur them on, they have not lost hope. Perhaps they can find others to join them, and together help them break the crushing grip of the haukmarn upon their lands. But they must bring Vayd’s deadly plans to a stop before things grow worse. Because with each passing day the shadows grow deeper.
Planting the seed
I hope this little sneak peak and update has watered the garden of your expectations.
Work is being done. The fields are being tilled. The plow is sharp and ready. Rain clouds are on the horizon. And the harvest is on the way.
Be sure to preorder the book and let me know if you’d like to be a beta reader as well.
And thank you for stopping by.

Beautiful cover!
Thanks, Lynn.
Ah! I love it so much! I was wondering if this one would be green as the “briar” word in there was giving me some clues. This set is going to look so very fabulous when they’re all sitting nicely on the shelf together!
So excited about another DJ book releasing this year!
Yes, the series should be quite colorful when it’s all said and done.
Hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to read it.
SO pretty, and SO green! I love it! I feel like maces don’t usually make it to fantasy book covers, which now that I think of it is kind of odd since they look really cool!
Good point, Rebekah. I don’t think I can remember seeing a similar weapon on a cover either. Mostly it’s always a sword. Technically, the weapon depicted here is actually a morningstar. I originally thought this was called a mace as well, but in researching it, found that the spikes make it distinct from a mace, though from my understanding the morningstar is sort of an evolved version of a mace, so perhaps it’s not entirely wrong to refer to it as such. At any rate, glad you enjoyed the cover!
Whoa! It’s stunning! I adore the green! Early St. Patrick’s Day indeed. 😀 I love it!
Thanks, Deborah. I think it’s just the thing a celtic forest dweller might enjoy.
